We thank everyone for generously stepping up to offer shelter to the displaced citizens of the Gulf Coast. We live in a big country with many resources, and that only makes a difference to people in need if people are generous with what they have. Our goal at Katrina's Angels is to provide long-term solutions, providing a comprehensive listing of housing, employment, transportation and resources, which will make life easier for the volunteers who are working hard to place families in new locations.
How It Works For People Offering Housing
- People can post housing opportunities available for a specified duration. Postings will list information on type of housing, description of housing, requested conditions, and any costs. Contact information will be kept secure. No one outside of our organization will have access to personal contact information. Approved volunteers placing evacuees will have access to your contact information to arrange for placement. Evacuees may see the city and a description of the housing opportunity and e-mail you using a form that hides your e-mail address.
- When your housing opportunity is taken, you may visit our Opt-Out page to remove your posting.
- Reimbursements for living expenses may be available through the resident's insurance, FEMA or another relief agency. You may want to discuss the available assistance resources with the new resident(s) before making arrangements.
How It Works For People In Need of Housing

Contact information will be kept secure. No one outside of our organization will have access to personal contact information. Approved volunteers will have access to your contact information to help you with housing placement.

Guidelines
- Everyone needs assistance. Please do not post offers which specify preference for people of a certain race, religion, class, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. Be generous and remember that we can't always judge a book by its cover.
- If you are a business, only make an offer if it is a genuine offer that is either free or at reduced rates. Our bulletin board is not available for businesses to use as free advertising. Katrina's Angels has the right to remove postings it deems to be advertising.
- Use common sense. Ask plenty of questions before you invite someone to be placed. Ask for proof of residency (ID Card, utility bill, credit card) to make sure you are helping a resident of an affected area (Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi). Be clear with your communication so both parties will have clear expectations. You want to avoid any misunderstandings before people relocate.
- Only list your own housing opportunity. Do not list anything that you don't have to offer.
- Make sure your address and contact information is accurate. Try to provide more than one phone number. Your information will be kept secure.
- Katrina's Angels is a medium of information exchange. The organization does not take responsibility for misunderstandings or miscommunications between any parties entering into any agreements as a result of these postings.
