Volunteers Needed
Katrina's
Angels is a non-profit organization that exists to support communities
affected by disasters and is driven by the generosity of its
volunteers. We need people willing to lend a hand as well as people
willing to coordinate efforts. All positions are purely unpaid,
voluntary positions. Will you help?
Our current needs include:
Fund Raising Director
Directs
and manages the fund raising efforts of the organization. Reports to
Program Director. Works with Fund Raising Angels to develop fund
raising and sponsorship opportunities for the organization. Looks for
ways to get our name out there, as well as ways to raise money online.
Must familiarize yourself withthe needs of our organization. Knowledge
and experience a plus. References a must.
Other Positions Available:
Community Angel - Individuals sought with computer experience, who can search the Internet, enter data, type e-mails and make phone calls. Make contacts with the community to provide resources for the web site, including announcements in the event of local disasters. May help in the event of local disasters by collecting in-kind donations locally and getting them to local disaster survivors in need. Report directly to the Community Coordinator or Resource Director, if there is no Community Coordinator locally available.
Community Coordinator - Coordinates and enhances efforts of Community Angel volunteers in a designated community. Works with Angels to identify helpful agencies and resources in their communities. Works with agencies and organizations to identify and communicate with survivors in their communities to match them with various opportunities from our partner organizations. Reports the needs of their community and updates results to the Resource Director.
Fund Raising Angel - Are you a self-starter who wants to make a difference somewhere? Katrina's Angels relies upon the generosity of our donors whether trying to raise funds to get our own community warehouse to store supplies or trying to get needed items to the communities hard-hit by disaster.
You can help us with fund raising for Katrina's Angels. Help create awareness and fund raise and advertise our projects. Experience with fund raisers helpful, but not necessary. Right now, we are trying to raise money so we can help fill those pockets of need that are always there after disasters strike...needs left unfulfilled by the initial responders. We like to say we give people a hand up not just a handout.

Grant Writer Angel - Grant-writing priorities include funding for a warehouse including office space and an area for volunteers, salaries for currently unpaid staff members.
Experience in grant writing, especially in the non-profit sector. Must be highly motivated, organized and enthusiastic about our mission.
HR Angel - Assists HR Director. May welcome volunteers and coordinate assignments in a designated area.
Humans Resources (HR) Director - Directs and manages the Human Resources Department. Must be able to work independently and provide good direction. We need a reliable self-starter. We are looking for a person who is able to work with other directors to create and maintain effective recruiting policies, do interviews, check references, and assign volunteers. HR background required. HR experience a plus. Must be able to keep HR database current by prompt contact and interview scheduling with volunteers.
Good working knowledge of computers, especially Microsoft Word, required. Unlimited high speed internet and unlimited long distance for in-country calls is a plus for you, as you will be contacting volunteers from all over the country.
Katrina's Angels does most of their work online, going on-site only when necessary. Must familiarize yourself with the needs of our organization. Must conduct all interviews with volunteers by phone and assign them as possible to the various departments. Ability to brainstorm and create effective volunteer recruitment campaigns a plus. Willingness to do simple background checks required. Set your own hours. Work from home. Perfect for the stay-at-home parent.

Media Angel - Aid the media relations efforts of the organization nationally by doing press releases and other articles for submission to news organizations. Ability to work independently is a must. We need good self-starters. Show creativity. You may help develop small media campaigns with Media/PR Director. Help develop fliers and other material used to fundraise and to advertise our projects. Create postings for various forums and on-line ads. Scope out news on local disasters. Must post headline links to our main web page. Great experience for your resume!
Resource Angel - Finds or develops resources for a designated community (such as food, clothing, utilities), entering those resource listings if not our state-sorted resource library on the Angels In Action forum. Checks the phone book and the internet and lists places like the local Lions Clubs, food pantries, church closets, local thrift stores by you, and other resources. Reports directly to the Resource Director.
Resource Partner - An organization that would like to partner with our network of volunteers and organizations.
Technology Angel - People providing web and technical expertise to support the functions of our web site. Requires web development experience, ASP, Microsoft Access, SQL experience preferred. Eventually we will change to MySQL from our current Microsoft Access MDB back end.
