Katrina's Angels is a non-profit organization that exists to support communities
affected by disasters and is driven by the generosity of its
volunteers. We need people willing to lend a hand as well as people
willing to coordinate efforts. All positions are purely unpaid,
voluntary positions. Will you help?

Other Positions Available:
Assistant Human Resources (HR) Director - Assist the director in managing the Human Resources Department. Must be able to work independently and provide good direction. We need a reliable self-starter. We are looking for a person who is able to work with other directors to create and maintain effective recruiting policies, do interviews, check references, and assign volunteers. HR background required. HR experience a plus. Must be able to keep HR database current by prompt contact and interview scheduling with volunteers.
Good working knowledge of computers required. Unlimited high speed internet and unlimited long distance for in-country calls is a plus for you, as you will be contacting volunteers from all over the country.
Katrina's Angels does most of their work online, going on-site only when necessary. Must familiarize yourself with the needs of our organization. Must conduct all interviews with volunteers by phone and assign them as possible to the various departments. Ability to brainstorm and create effective volunteer recruitment campaigns a plus. Willingness to do simple background checks required. Set your own hours. Work from home. Perfect for the stay-at-home parent.

Assistant Media Director - Supports and suggests new tasks and goals to the Media Director and Media Angels. We need someone who can help do press releases and/or articles for submission to news organizations. Must be able to work independently and provide good direction. Must show creativity. Must post headlines to our main web page. Fills in for Media Director as needed.
Community Angel - We need volunteers with computer experience who can search the Internet, enter data, type e-mails and make phone calls. Make contacts with your community to provide resources for the web site, including announcements in the event of local disasters. You also may help in the event of local disasters by collecting in-kind donations locally and getting them to local disaster survivors in need. Volunteer from home. Reports to Community Coordinator or directly to the Resource Director if no coordinator is available in your area.
Community Coordinators - Coordinate and enhance the efforts of Community Angel volunteers in a designated community. Work with Angels to identify helpful agencies and resources in your own community!
May work with agencies and organizations to identify and communicate with survivors in your own community to match them with various opportunities from our partner organizations.
Check the phone book and the internet and lists places like distribution sites for water, food, and ice; shelters, blue roofs (tarps), medical care, and other resources during crises. Reports directly to the Resource Director. Help scope out needs on forums, googling small town web sites, etc., helping Katrina's Angels to locate those communities that become forgotten pockets of need following disasters like floods and hurricanes. Perhaps be willing to pass out items in disaster areas if the disaster occurs close to home. This would entail collecting donations and items and perhaps taking them to where a local disaster is and simply passing them out in the name of Katrina's Angels. All donations are tax-deductible.
Report the needs of your community and update results to the Resource Director.
Director of Marketing and Public Relations - Responsibilities:
The Director of Marketing and Public Relations is a senior-level position responsible for the overall promoting of Katrina's Angels and all internal and external communications. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate they have the abilities to strengthening Katrina’s Angels’ brand and the skill to enhance our positive reputation in the public and private sections of local, state and national arenas. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Preparing, planning and implementing a coordinated marketing and public relations plan;
* Identifying and initiating opportunities for effective publicity in the media;
* Arranging media opportunities, serving as media spokesperson, cultivating media relationships, developing and maintaining updated media directory, and coordinating media archives;
* Designing tactics to enhance organization’s presence with newspaper, radio, television, online and other media outlets in the local, regional and national arenas;
* Setting, reviewing and updating organizational guidelines on style (for correctness, accuracy and branding);
* Implementing and overseeing preparation of and editing all promotional materials to ensure that they fit within the marketing and public relations plan, conform with organizational style guidelines, and meet established time-lines;
* Developing and marketing a policy for internal and external events, including online virtual activities, that fits within organization’s marketing, public relations and strategic plans, and
* Provide leadership and mentoring for other team members.
Experience and Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or accredited license
* Senior level management experience in marketing and public relations
* Sophisticated understanding of and experience with marketing and public relations strategies and tools
* Strong planning ability
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
* Proven aptitude to be a team player and to motivate others
* Work experience in the nonprofit field is highly desirable
* Desire to make a difference and passion for helping people impacted by natural disasters.

Fund Raising Angels Needed! - Help Katrina's Angels, Inc. to help the victims of hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, or other natural disasters. We rely upon the generosity of our donors as we are trying to get needed items to communities hard-hit by natural disasters. You can help us with fund raising for Katrina's Angels in the evnt of disaster. Conduct a gift card drive, car wash, or new underwear and new sox drive for those still in shelters. Many are uninsured or under-insured. Many are disabled or elderly.
Experience with fund raisers is helpful, but not necessary. Right now, we are trying to raise money so we can help those who have fallen through the cracks. We like to say we give people a hand up, not just a handout.
Holding a local fund raiser for Katrina's Angels, Inc. would be great! Get a group together and help! All monies are tax-deductible as we are a registered non-profit. We can supply fliers or poster designs.

Fund Raising Director - Direct and manage the fund raising efforts of the organization. Report to Program Director. Work with Fund Raising Angels to develop fund raising and sponsorship opportunities for the organization. Often we have groups or individuals known as Fund Raising Angels wanting to do fundraisers in their locale, and we need someone to help manage those fundraising activities. You can also look for ways to get our name out there, as well as ways to raise money online. Must familiarize yourself with the needs of our organization. Knowledge and experience a plus. References a must.
Grant Writer Angels - We are looking for volunteer grant writers to be on our new Grant Writing Committee. Listed below are the major responsibilities of the position and not a detailed description of all the work requirements inherent in the job.
Duties: The Grant Writer will, through interviews and other means, gather information about the program and acquire a sound understanding of the organization; prepare grant applications/packages; research prospects and analyze them to identify likely funding sources; compile, write and edit persuasive proposals and follow grant-making guidelines; review the budget of a project/program for which funding is sought and make recommendations to present it to grant-making organizations; keep in contact with grant-making organizations and track foundation/corporate grants to supply additional supportive material as needed; prepare an annual grant application schedule and prepare and submit progress reports.
Qualifications: The preferred candidate must possess excellent writing/grammar skills. Must possess effective and persuasive communication skills to be successful in this position and be able to create effective partnerships in both the profit and non-profit sectors. A Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Technical Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management or related field and a minimum of 1 year proven proposal writing is preferred, however, relevant experience may be substituted for a degree.
HR Angel - Assists HR Director. Able to initiate contact with volunteer applicants, conduct interviews, do reference checks, and place in appropriate deaprtments.
Media Angels! News Writers, Journalists, Graphic Designers... - Volunteer as a Media Angel! Specific duties may include one but not all of the following:
· Writing press releases and other articles
· Researching news on natural disasters in the US
· Posting headline links to our main web page
· Creating press packets for media contacts
· Developing text for the web site
· Writing articles for our blog
· Designing fliers, posters, and other material used to fundraise and to advertise our services

Resource Angels - Find or develop resource lists for survivors (such as food, clothing, utilities), entering those resource listings into our state-sorted resource library on the Angels In Action forum. Check the phone book and the internet and list places like distribution sites for water, food, and ice; shelters, blue roofs (tarps), medical care, and other such disaster resources. Report directly to the Resource Director (ResourceDirector@katrinasangels.org). Scope out needs on forums by googling small town web sites, local news sites, and forums, and help Katrina's Angels to locate those communities that become forgotten pockets of need following natural disasters like floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
Resource Director - The Resource Director, together with our volunteers, researches to try to provide timely resources for our community projects and response during emergency disaster situations, making contacts with smaller agencies in the hard-hit areas who are able to assess the situation. Find resources to direct to those in need. Help to keep the state-sorted resource library on the Angels In Action forum up-to-date. Also help to moderate the Angels In Action forum and suggest web site changes to the Program Director and Technology Director. Assign and direct Resource Angels and Community Angels and Coordinators as needed.
Must be a good self-starter able to work independently when necessary and generate ideas for problem-solving.

Students-Help Katrina's Angels From Home! Give Community Service! - Students who enjoy surfing the web can get community service credits by doing virtual volunteer work for Katrina's Angels. Help run a campaign for Katrina's Angels, www.katrinasangels.org, by contacting family and friends using the internet. Do on-line research for resources or grant information. Find or develop resource lists for survivors (such as food, clothing, utilities), entering those resource listings into our state-sorted resource library on the Angels In Action forum. If this does not appeal to you--perhaps you can get a group of local students together with an adult Community Coordinator and have an Underwear/Sox/School Supplies Drive or a Personal Hygiene Drive for Young Disaster Victims? You must be led by an approved adult Community Coordinator to do local fund raising activities.

Technology Angels - Provide web and technical expertise to support the functions of our web site. Requires web development experience, ASP, Microsoft Access, SQL experience preferred. Eventually we will change to MySQL from our current Microsoft Access MDB back end. Need long term commitment of six months to a year.
